Yoga, baby!

I went to my first yoga class on Tuesday night. Bhrett was thoughtful enough to buy me my own (bright pink!) yoga mat, so I felt very official when I arrived. :-) There were a total of about eight girls in the class, and one of them was a newbie like me - thank god! The instructor, Angela, was careful to explain the positions as we went along, and I thought I did pretty well! I'm flexible, so the bending and twisting was not a problem. I totally did the halasana pose and then went right into the sarvangasana or "shoulder stand" pose! The only thing that gave me any trouble was BALANCE - who knew? I found myself chuckling out loud as I came down on both feet after trying to balance my weight on one foot during the dancer pose.

Anyway, this particular class focused mostly on meditation and relaxation. For me this meant almost falling asleep. Dim lights? Relaxing music? Squishy pink mat? What do you expect?!?

Bhrett was actually surprised that I came home without even breaking a sweat! It definitely wasn't a traditional workout. Everything was about breathing and releasing bad energy. I would say we did a lot of s-t-r-e-t-c-h-i-n-g, but that was the extent of my physical activity that night (save it...it's more than usual, I know).

Because I survived, I'm going to use my free passes at World Gym next week and check out their yoga and mat pilates classes so I have something to compare this experience to. More to come...
