Last Friday, my sister, Jill, invited me to the TaTaPalooza planning party at her house (more about that later). Little did I know that I would end up two-stepping at a gay country bar! Wow, that's a loaded one in terms of "firsts." Let's see, I two-stepped...with females...at a place called the 3 Legged Cowboy. The website really says it all: "Country Like You've Never Seen It Before." Boy, have you got that right! Ha!
First, I will go ahead and say that my attempt at "counting to four," as Ray called it, was pretty much an epic fail. She and Miranda tried their best to make my borrowed boots move in the right direction, but to no avail. You could clearly see the fear and humiliation in eyes as I scooted across the rainbow-flag-lined dance floor. It was pretty funny. I know Jill got a kick out of watching me "run away from Ray," but hey, I gave it a shot!

As for the gay/country bar part? Yes, there was a lot of man dancing, but that minor detail was overshadowed by all of the awesome two-steps, waltzes and the occasional kick ass country song. (Side note: Apparently gay DJs have access to an entire catalogue of country music that they haven't shared with the rest of us. What's that about?) Anyway, the men ranged in age, color and size, but after first glance, none of that mattered. Not to mention, there were enough cowboy boots, sequined belts and bedazzled shirts to make Dolly Parton look like the girl next door! It was a hoot!
The night was capped off with Designing Women. Odd, I know, but apparently this clip is a classic in the gay community. Seeing it again on the big screen - and hearing everyone in the bar recite the scene word for word - reminded me of how much I loved that show. Julia Sugarbaker rocks!
